Mariona Casamayor Font (Ph.D.): "Monitoring the evolution of pebble beaches by using smart pebbles"

Nowadays, many aspects of coastal processes and sedimentary transport on sandy beaches are known. However, there are very few studies on sediments transport on pebble/cobble beaches. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to increase the knowledge on the transport mechanisms of pebble size particles. To get it, we have been monitoring the transport of pebbles in a mixed beach by using RFID technology. This transport cannot be understood without considering the characteristics of the environment. Variables such as sediment properties, beach topography (both in the nearshore and the shoreface) and wave data have to be properly analysed to understand the beach behaviour and its evolution.
