Ph.D. Program in Oceanography and Global Change at the Canary Islands, Spain
Trichodesmium spp. is a colonial cyanobacterium capable of fixing N2 that has a great influence on the biogeochemical cycles of the ocean. It is especially abundant in tropical and subtropical regions and, when there are certain natural conditions, such as a high sea surface temperature or strong water stratification, it forms blooms that can measure up to hundreds of kilometers.
My thesis project focuses on the study of the temporal distribution of Trichodesmium in the waters of the Canary Islands, as well as on different aspects of its biology and ecology.
